Sunk Loto Ready To Hit Back
General News Hard rocking local lads Sunk Loto have spent the past three years writing and recording material for the follow up to 2000's "Big Picture Lies". Most of the songs on the forthcoming album were written by lead singer Jason Brown with a couple of tracks contributed by guitarist Luke McDonald. Once written, the band would bring the songs to the jam room and put them together. At one stage they had more than 30 tracks to choose from for the new CD. "It was hard to cut it down to 12," says singer Jason Brown of the final track listing. "I suppose in the end it was pretty obvious what the really strong songs were. We would look back on the demos and try and decide what's going to fit the most and then we would go and jam them and see what songs worked for us. We had a couple of the same sounding songs so we got rid of those and I think it left a good variety of tracks for the album." The band had a particular style in mind for their new material so enlisted the help of Phil McKeller (Grinspoon, Silverchair) in production and mixing. Stay tuned for more news on Sunk Loto's new album soon plus details on their upcoming single and tour this September. In the meantime, they'll be at Splendour In The Grass next month. The band will play at 3pm on day two of the event - July 20.

Ding Dong Bar
General News Whoever said rock’n’roll was back must have taken the needle off the record, because for many, it never went away. With the success of Cherry (Melbourne’s first CBD rock’n’roll bar) comes The Ding Dong Lounge – the sister bar to New York City’s very own of the same name. The Ding Dong Lounge’s grand opening at Level 1/18 Market Lane Melbourne on Saturday 14 June, is filling the void in Melbourne’s rock’n’roll scene – sure they got the venues and plenty of bands that want the limelight, but now comes a mid-sized venue that can be your after work drinking hole or a place to see some of the scene’s best local and international bands. The Ding Dong Lounge is nestled in the centre of Chinatown, but never before has a rock bar existed on this strip. The emphasis is on good music, definitely no electronica and stars a host of young DJs spinning the decks with everything from The Ramones, Television, T-Rex, The Runaways, AC/DC, Turbonegro, Iggy & The Stooges and a stack more vintage and contemporary rock to salute you. The result is The No Fun EP, a no nonsense hard hitting 6 song CD (including 3 covers, 'Birth, School, Work, Death' - The Godfathers, 'I Just Want Something To Do'- The Ramones and 'Fuck Yeah, That Wide' - Primal Scream). Label manager Bianca Jang is more than excited about the up-coming release, 'This will be our third record, and to be putting out music by such an amazing band is a big step for us. We are a small indie but we love our music and I think thats what is probably more important to them.'
