Following a busy twelve months playing support to a handful of international acts such as The Ataris, The Vandals, Guttermouth and Useless ID and a stint on The Drugs national tour along with plenty of local shows to boot, bass player Matty has decided to leave Sydney punkers Unpaid Debt to focus more on family life after four highly eventful years with the band. He will continue to play shows with the band until we find a replacement email if you are interested in trying out for the band. Read More for some words from Matty.
After a very stressful last few weeks of thinking, I have decided to leave Unpaid Debt as their bass player. Since starting the band with Damien four years ago I have worked the hardest I have ever worked in a band and feel that I don't have the energy to go on. There are many reasons for this decision, the main one is being the father of two wonderful children and I don't want to miss any part of their lives for my dream of being in a band. It is unfair to them and also to my wife. The last tour we did opened my eyes to the fact that i would miss them too much when the band starts touring more. I also feel that i have lost faith in the music industry, it is a hard and unfair nut to crack. The other guys in the band still have a passion and hard working drive that i no longer share and it may lead to me holding them back, i hope the best for the band and that replacing me isn't going to be a major hassle. I will continue to play with the guys until they replace me or make other arrangements. I would like to thank a lot of people for their help and support (fuck there is a lot of people, here we go): First and most of all i would like to thank Damien for the last nine or so years we have played together, it has been a busy time full of good gigs, bad gigs, very bad gigs, stolen equipment, living together, supporting each other in hard times, arguing, seeing bands, and a shit load more and am still hoping to keep our friendship strong. I would like to thank the other guys i have played with in UD(Josho, Joe, Drew and Tim) and their girlfriends for letting us take up so much of their time, it was a great experience. Thank you so much Danielle who helped us take the band up a level by getting us so many great shows and supports, the people who followed and believed in me as a bass player, Wayde and the studio rats, Ryan pig, Checky and so many more that it would take me too long to write them all. Well i hope that you all come to my last shows with the band. I will still be playing in Columbia's Pain as it isn't a serious project and you will see me out again after having a rest and getting a little crusty punk band together just to play around Sydney.
All the best,
Matthew Hammond Albert (a.k.a Matty Ann Debt).
p.s I almost forgot the Penrith scene. Thanks all of you for your support and making me feel at home when i played there
