THE BAND

How did the band come together?
We all grew up together playing in bands in the punk rock scene in Vancouver…When all those shitty bands broke up, the members that meant anything got together to join Crowned King.

How long has the band been around?
I think its 7 years now.

Briefly describe your sound…
Better than your band.

A few influences…
Back when I was first learning to write songs I was influenced by a lot of different bands…but these days, all the music I write is inspired by the shit my band and I see and experience while touring the globe. Being in Crowned King can get pretty Fuckin' insane sometimes…our songs tell the stories.

What's your current release? Tell us a little about it…
'Break The Silence' has been the record to put us on the map. It's a collection of songs that I wrote over the two years of touring our previous record… a lot of crazy shit went down while I was writing that record. The World Trade Center fell, America went and stuck their tiny dick in places they shouldn't have…I had a lot to write about. I'm excited for it to come out in OZ in May.

OFF THE STAGE

When did you decide you had to be a musician, and how did you go about it?
I've always been serious into music…when I was in high school, playing in a band was always my focus…I played in a few bands going through school, but Crowned King's the one I fell in love with.

What was your first band name and what style did you play?
My first band was called 'NSF' and we were terrible.

Tell us three albums you couldn't live without in your collection…
U2- Joshua Tree,
Ramones - End Of The Century,
Foo Fighters - The Color And The Shape

Best piece of musical advice you've been given…
Be better than everyone else.

Two groups/artists you'd love to take out on the road…
I'd love to take The Bronx out on tour…That's a tough one… Bagster

Favourite song of your group?
They're all the best songs I've ever heard.

The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is…
Red wine and Caviar

The thing you least look forward to before a tour is…
My bus breaking down

When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing?
Band related stuff…

ON THE STAGE / ROAD

What gear do you use?
Mesa Boogie, Gibson, Ayotte, Dean Markley…I'll only mention the ones that hook us up..the rest can go fuck themselves.

Favourite venue to perform at… and why?
So far my favorite venue is this really cool club called "Call The Office" in London Ontario…Its one of those places that has been around forever…there's old Nirvana posters on the wall from when they played there in the 90's..we've never had a bad show there, it's a really small intimate club.

Who hogs the stereo in the van the most?
Good question…we're usually to drunk to work the stereo.

Who in your group has the worst "bad habit" on tour, and what is it?
None of us bathe…we all share that bad habit.

Give us a good quick 'on the road' story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever…
One night when we were touring with The Distillers, we were out back of the venue hanging outside our bus…These kids walk up and start drawing all over The Distillers bus, which is parked right in front of ours….before we can do anything, their door swings open and out runs Brody. She grabs the kid by the neck and starts screaming at him, and soon enough the little shit throws a punch and hits her right in the face…quicker than shit, our guitar player Ryan runs over, picks the kid up and give's him the biggest bitch slap I've ever seen…sends the kid flying 10 feet across the parking lot. It was definetly a sight to see.

RIGHT NOW

What's getting the most spins in your stereo right now?
Right now…
The Get Up Kids - Guilt Show… that and The Stooges - Raw Power

Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why…
Check out The Bronx…they're a fucking awesome band and they are breathing some life back into the dismal state of Rock n' Roll

A word of advice to those slugging it out in empty pubs on Tuesday nights…
