Punk Journey: St Kilda + Beyond‘ is an upcoming Punk Exhibition + series of special events at St Kilda gallery Brightspace from 19th23rd November. The mid to late 70’s was a golden era in the Melbourne Punk music scene. Early Punk bands like Young Charlatans, Babeez and The Boys Next Door were flipping their middle finger to the ultra-conservative Fraser government, while many of St Kilda’s venues became the backdrop for one of the most colourful and unique anti-establishment periods in Australian music history. Fast forward 30 years and Melbourne punk historian and photographer, Melynda von Wayward has put together a vibrant photographic and multimedia exhibition that pays tribute to the historical Melbourne punk scene from 1977-1987, as well as the contemporary punk scene from 2004-2007. Expand this post to check out a list of things that will be happening within and around the exhibition.
