THE BASICS
Name : Kris Bosman
Band : Antagonist AD
Job In Band : Guitar
Website Address : antagonistad.com
HOME
Hometown : Auckland
Hometown is best known for : Being the best city in New Zealand
Best venue in your hometown : There isn’t enough venues to call one the “best” but Mt Eden Scout Hall is great with a good line up.
Favourite show you’ve seen in your hometown : Throwdown 2002
Favourite show you’ve played in your hometown : I’ve played so many amazing and crazy shows but most recently the show we did with Title Fight and The Chase (reunion) was pretty good.
THE BAND
How did the band first come to exist? I lived in a different city to the other members so i wasn’t in the original line up but i was at their first show and wanted to join asap.
How long has the band been going? 8-9 years
Any particular story behind the name? I think originally it was The Antagonist, then just Antagonist until we had a conflict the the American Antagonist. Then we changed it to Antagonist AD.
What’s your most recent release? Tell us a little about it… ‘Nothing From No One’, released 2012. Took a different approach to recording this one, all members had input on the writing and we dedicated more time to the recording.
Got a personal stand out achievement of your band to date? There’s too many to name but most recently I’d say playing the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest.
OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? Watching my first band before I joined.
Any particular band / album or song that you personally credit as a major influence? There’s a few. Machine Head – ‘Burn My Eyes. Arkangel – ‘Prayers Upon Deaf Ears’. Hatebreed – ‘Satisfaction Is The Death Of Desire’ / ‘Perseverance’. Throwdown – ‘Don’t Have To Be Blood To Be Family’. Until the End – ‘Blood In The Ink’.
Your first band name, and what style did you play? Promise of Bloodshed, Metal/Hardcore
Most prized music related item you own? Block letter 5150
When you’re not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Working.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is… If it’s touring Australia then I look forward to eating good vegan food
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is… Asking my work for time off.
ON THE STAGE
When on offer, what’s your one must have item on the rider? Water
Favourite place you’ve toured… and why? I’ll always love Australia for a lot of reasons. Being able to be a part of their hardcore scene coming from NZ is quite humbling. We’ve been going there a long time and I’ve made a lot of friends.
Most memorable show you’ve played? and why? I think The Chase’s final run of shows with Cry Wolf. Bands final shows always bring out the best vibe
Got a favourite song to play live? 12.22
Any embarrassing on stage moments come to mind? One of my old guitars had a compartment in the back for the pickup battery. Without the battery the guitar is useless. One show the battery came out and bounced across stage with me chasing it, in the end I had to ask someone in the crowd where it went. I’m sure something worse than that has happened, maybe our old guitarist abusing someone in the crowd, that was embarrassing also funny though haha.
Any pre-show rituals? Warming up, i change strings every 3 shows.
What do you find is the hardest aspect of touring in a band today? For me it’s juggling work with touring, i work full time so that limits everything i can do. other than that it really depends where you tour, and who you tour with.
RIGHT NOW
Last song you listened to? The Acacia Strain – The Combine
Last album you acquired? Ghostface Killah – 12 Reasons To Die
Which band or album is currently on high rotation? See above
Tell us an up and coming band or artist you think we should go and listen to right now? Too Late, Survival, Outsiders Code, Ill Blood
What’s on the cards for the next few months for the band? Touring Australia and Europe
IF ONLY…
You can pick any one album for your band to cover in full, what would it be and why? That’s hard to answer because there is very albums that I like every song. Umm there would be 2. Hatebreed – Satisfaction is the Death of Desire. That album is a classic, when it came out it changed everything. Perseverance was also genre defining i think but i prefer satisfaction. The 2nd would be Arkangel – Dead Man Walking. Euro metalcore killed it around 2000, it’s a big influence.
You can pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums in full, what would it be, and why? Too Late, because it would be funny to watch the bass player try and play the songs hahaha
One band you wish you were able to see live but never had the chance? The Acacia Strain
One venue you have yet to play that you would love to? I think we’re overdue for another house show, so somebodies lounge.
The chance comes up to fill in for a member of a band for one tour, which band would it be, and why? There isn’t, I like my band, the sound we have and the members.
A headline tour overseas comes up, tell us two bands you’d take along to support your band. Ill Blood from New Zealand, good dudes. Survival from Australia, once again good dudes, that band is hard as fuck.
