Job In Band : Guitar
Website Address : http://www.facebook.com/theothershc

HOME
Hometown : Perth
Hometown is best known for : Glassing c*nts, cashed up bogans, expensive everything, drivers who can’t merge lanes, EMU EXPORT.
Best venue in your hometown : HQ or the old Hyde Park Hotel.
Favourite show you’ve seen in your hometown : Bane @ HQ 2007.
Favourite show you’ve played in your hometown : Probably a 208 show. They’re always fun.

THE BAND
How did the band first come to exist? We’ve known each other for a while now and we always used to hang out at shows. The band started out wanting to sound like Carry On…….oh how things have changed.
How long has the band been going?  Almost 5 years now.
Any particular story behind the name? The Others is most definitely a LOST reference.
What’s your most recent release? Tell us a little about it… We just released “Sun and Sea” through Suppression Records. 4 tracks of hardcore / punk rock with a few bluesy riffs thrown in for good measure.
Got a personal stand out achievement of your band to date? Our upcoming tour with Miles Away and Cruel Hand is definitely the one. Touring with mates and 2 of my favourite hardcore bands. I couldn’t ask for more.

OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? My first ever CD was Green Day – Dookie and I remember hearing Longview for the first time and thinking “fuck yeah I need to know how to play this”. I played bass guitar for a couple of years before picking up the guitar and have never looked back. I don’t mind giving the bass a bit of a fondle sometimes though.
Any particular band / album or song that you personally credit as a major influence? Stevie Ray Vaughan – Texas Flood is my guitar bible.
Your first band name, and what style did you play? “The Engee’s” We just played NFG and Blink 182 covers.
Most prized music related item you own? My first ever guitar – a Mexican Fender Stratocaster.
When you’re not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Playing guitar, working, complaining about my lack of sleep, re-arranging my room, Bondi Street, kicking/watching the footy.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is… The “Make It A Decade Tour” will be our very first tour so I’m looking forward to it all.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is… Fendi’s extremely questionable dubstep van playlist, not sleeping in my own bed, long drives, not eating properly, not getting enough sleep.

ON THE STAGE
When on offer, what’s your one must have item on the rider? Anything free is awesome (the inner Asian in me is coming out). Water is a must, some kind of energy drink, powerade, beers are always good.
Favourite place you’ve toured… and why? We’ve never left WA so I’m going to say Bunbury because everyone always makes the effort to drive down from Perth.
Most memorable show you’ve played, and why? 208 shows are always fun and the few times that we played at the Hydey.
Got a favourite song to play live? Not particularly. It changes on a show to show basis.
Any embarrassing on stage moments come to mind? I was pretty nervous during our first show and needed to pee really badly. I honestly thought I was going to piss my pants. Luckily for me it didn’t happen!
Any pre-show rituals? Water. Pee. Cigarette. In that order.
What do you find is the hardest aspect of touring in a band today? Funding is a huge issue, especially for bands coming from overseas. Australia is just too expensive.

RIGHT NOW

Last song you listened to? California X – Mummy
Last album you acquired? Graveyard – Lights Out
Which band or album is currently on high rotation? Tenement – Napalm Death, Mindset – Leave No Doubt, Title Fight – Floral Green.
Tell us an up and coming band or artist you think we should go and listen to right now? White Oak & Stuyvesant, Agitated, No Regrets and Tikdoff (feat. Perth’s best drummer).
What’s on the cards for the next few months for the band? We just finished recording songs for a 10” which is due out early next year. Other than that it’s just shows and hopefully getting another tour under our belt.

IF ONLY…
You can pick any one album for your band to cover in full, what would it be and why? Iron Age – Constant Struggle. So many bangin’ riffs.
You can pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums in full, what would it be, and why? Paint It Black because it would be faster, angrier, and just a whole lot better.
One band you wish you were able to see live but never had the chance? Jimi Hendrix.
One venue you have yet to play that you would love to? I’d love to play in a boat house one day.
The chance comes up to fill in for a member of a band for one tour, which band would it be, and why? Annihilation Time because it would be so wild and it would give me an excuse to grow my hair.
A headline tour overseas comes up, tell us two bands you’d take along to support your band? We would support Mental and Righteous Jams.

PLUG TIME
Got any final words? Catch us on the “Make It A Decade Tour” with Miles Away and Cruel Hand. It’s our first tour and we’re pretty excited to be doing it with 2 bands we love. We’ve also got a new 7” called “Sun and Sea” out through Suppression Records. #huxleyworldwide. Thanks!
