The Round-upFriday December 22nd, 2017

This is the final ‘Round-Up’ for 2017. There isn’t likely to be too much fresh news floating around now for the rest of the year, so we’re putting the ol’ feet up until the new year.
There will be the occasional news post pop up to keep things ticking over and if anything important comes in we’ll let you know about it. The gig guide will also remain updated, so keep poking your nose in, and you can keep on submitting anything you have coming up – get it in nice and early for 2018 stuff.
Have a great Christmas / New Year, stay safe and hopefully you too can switch off for a bit.
Thanks for your continued support of the site across another year.

Today we have a new addition to the Fat Wreck skate deck series, playing times for UNIFY ’18, a reminder of the upcoming Gyroscope tour dates, a mini doco from Vacant Home, and new video from Ratking.

END OF YEAR LIST?
No time this year for an overly detailed end of year list, so will keep it simple and just share my two favourite local and international releases of 2017.

On the local front, Perth’s Rag n’ Bone smashed it with their ‘A Handful Of Ash‘ album, and Brisbane’s WAAX really cemented themselves as one to watch with their ‘Wild & Weak‘ EP. Both bands should be set for big years in 2018, their live shows are right up there and will only get better.

Internationally, Winnipeg, Canada’s Mobina Galore impressed big time with ‘Feeling Disconnected‘ back in February, and The Menzingers returned to their very best form on ‘After The Party‘.

Listen to releases below if you are yet to do so. They go good!

RATKING – ‘GOTTA LIGHT?’ VIDEO CLIP
On the precipice of releasing their next EP ‘SERF‘, Perth’s Ratking have just put forward a new single, ‘Gotta Light?‘, accompanied by a video which may contain vocalist Josh Reeves munching down a durry or two…

Since day one, Ratking have worked tirelessly. Their debut release, 2013’s ‘Wastelander‘ was an introduction free of ambiguity. The EP carved out a unique foxhole from which the band have been attacking ever since.

Growing in skill and confidence, the band released their debut album ‘Commonwealth‘ the following year – earning them rave reviews and dedicated fans worldwide. But if ‘Commonwealth‘ was a testament to what they could achieve, the forthcoming ‘SERF‘ is a strong insight into just how this band is developing.

Check out the new video below.

VACANT HOME RELEASE YEAR ONE TOUR DOCUMENTARY
Perth 5-piece Vacant Home have put together a short documentary style video outlining their first year as a band.

The band’s DIY ethic and humble attitude from their beginnings playing house shows in their hometown has seen them support the likes of Stick To Your Guns, Deez Nuts, House Vs Hurricane, Knocked Loose & Saviour around Perth.

Earlier this year the band released their EP ‘Reflect, Respond‘ via Chicago’s Mutant League Records.

You can check out the video below. Catch them next on the Wave Rave boat party on the Swan River on Saturday 6th January. More details [Here].
