Teenage Bottlerocket return to Australia this week fresh from the release of ‘Stealing the Covers‘, a unique album of very special cover songs out on Fat Wreck.
These will be their first Australian dates since touring our way with Frenzal Rhomb back in 2011. Tickets are available for all shows if you want in. Re-cap dates and venues below if you missed them earlier.
Speaking on the new album, the band added;
“We sat with this project for a LONG time… like a decade. We thought it’d be rad to cover some smaller bands that never really got the attention they deserved. When it came time to bring the project to life, we had to sift through a ton of songs to finally narrow it down to these. This record represents some of our favorite songs from bands we’ve played with over the years. We’re so stoked it’s finally going to come out, and we’re extra stoked it’s coming out on Fat Wreck Chords. I’m pretty sure we are the first band to do a cover record on FAT. Yep. We First.“
2015 was a year of ups and downs for the band, they released their sixth studio album ‘Tales From Wyoming‘ via Rise Records in March, but tragedy struck with the passing of drummer Brandon Carlisle in November.
Twin brother and the band’s co-founder / guitarist, Ray Carlisle recently told AP;
“I miss talking to him. It would drive our girlfriends and wives crazy because we’d do a tour for two-and-a-half months, we’d come home and the day after, we’d call each other to talk about the tour for two hours. And then the next day, we’d call each other and talk about punk for two hours—we were always talking. The shittiest thing wasn’t him not being on the new record, it was me not being able to show it to him… let him hear it. This is something everybody in Teenage Bottlerocket will be dealing with for the rest of their lives.“
2016 saw the band make the call to continue on;
“There’s no way Brandon would want us to throw in the towel, to let this band that he spent his life building just end. Fuck no. Brandon would want us to keep playing, always. The decision was made based on that, and so here we are. We’re still a band. We’re going to keep rocking and we’re going to do it with Brandon in our hearts.“
And as such, they recruited Darren Chewka whom the band met as he was drumming for Old Wives, and they hit the road on the Vans Warped Tour, then toured Europe and Canada.
