Hometown : Port Macquarie, NSW.
Hometown is best known for : From my experience
over the years i’v come to learn that Port Macquarie is best
know for this stupid Camel Ride business. There’s a car with
a fiber glass Camel on the roof that drives around town through
the tourest seasion playing “Hey Hey Hey, Ride a Camel today”.
It’s weird i know but everyone who’s been here remembers
it..
Best venue in your hometown : There is no venue
here in Port Macquarie. Every local show we do ourselves.. Put up
a stage, Hire a sound guy, network people through facebook, etc.
The kids in the city dont know easy they have it..
THE BAND
How long has the band been going?
We’ve been together for 12 months this month.
Many lineup changes along the way?
None, one lineup...
How would you describe your sound to the average person
on the street?
Our sound is Rock ‘n’ Roll. But i’d say it’s
more like Australian Rock ‘n’ Roll. Dirty, sweaty and
covered in beer. It’s not polished, not clean and we have
no plans of changing what we do. If anything were getting dirtier.
Got a favourite track that you have released so far?
I’d be a complete fool to pick a favourite track. If i had
a favourite track i’d sing it better than the other songs.
They're like children, who am i to choose.
OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously
about playing it?
For me it was the White Stripes. The simplisity of Jack White’s
rhythm constructions and his howling broken hearted voice made me
fall inlove with the thought of doing it myself. Once I learnt bar
chords i started writing my own songs. 6 months later we formed
the band.
What was your first band name, and what style did you play?
My first band name was and still is The Foreign Objects. I’ve
been singing for just over 12 months and playing guitar for 18....
Most prized music related item you own?
1956 Gibson Les Paul Junior reissue. Coming in at second place would
be my Boss OD3 pedal that has had after market work done to it to
give me a thick tone with heaps of top end still and my Electroharmonix
Big Muff. There are a few other little tricks I’m working
on but i’m not going to take my pants off for you....
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is?
Getting on the road. I love being away and doing gigs to fresh faces..
It can get hard on the pocket but it feels great to be playing live.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is?
Nothing, going on tour rules. Being broke sucks but I guess when
you make sacrifices you are usually greatly rewarded.
When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually
found doing?
I’ve been drinking a lot of Gin lately. I surf and in the
winter I like to skate. I like to paint cartoons of my friends with
funny little stories behind them, and stuff like that....
ON THE STAGE / ROAD
Best rider item you've ever received without requesting it?
I found this sick rider after the “Festival of the Sun”
gig we played late last year. She looked like Joan Jett. I think
i was even calling her Joan. That was one hell of a ” Rider”...
Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured…
and why?
Melbourne is the best so far. It seems like we fit in down there.
It seems in Melbourne that the scene is so far away from all the
bullshit. Everyone is so cool, no matter how you dress or who you
know.
Most memorable show you've played? and why?
The most fun we’ve ever had was playing at the Pony Bar in
Melbourne. We had the 2:00 am slot and the croud didn’t have
a clue who we were, but rocked out with us. They bought us drinks
and we gave them our CD’s. Those guys and girls were the coolest
crowd we’ve played for.
Worst 'guilty pleasure' artist / song you've come across
on a bandmates iPod?
We can’t afford iPods big enough to put shit music on them
along with great music. But i do own a five disc compilation called
“80’s Hits”. I guess thats my ‘Guilty Pleasure’...
Who in your group has the worst “bad habit”
on tour, and what is it?
Dave Hall (drums) he’s my little brother so i can tolerate
it. But i have to pack clothes for him on tour. And he returns my
Tee’s wet with sweat and beer stains. I cant stay to mad at
him because he’s really funny.
RIGHT NOW
Where are you?
Sitting at my computer in the apartment I live in. All my friends
live here too. We took over the block. It’s situated across
the road from Lighthouse beach in Port Macquarie. So i have ocean
views and I’m on the dole. Hahaha.
What's the last song you listened to?
Oh! you pretty things, David Bowie. It’s playing now.
Which band or album is currently rockin' your world?
I’ve been listening to the Dandy Warhols a bit lately –
the album “Come Down”. I also really like The Black
Lips “live in mexico”.
Tell us a band we should all go and listen to right now?
Band of Skulls... Even your girlfriend will like them..
IF ONLY...
If you could pick any one album to cover from start to finish, what
would it be and why?
Robert Palmers “Greatest Hits” because for me thats
sex for your ears. He was a legend.
If you could pick any one band / artist to cover one of
your albums from start to finish, what would it be, and why?
I’d have the Presets or someone like that do it and make it
awesome. We’d become so wealthy off the royalties that I could
fart out gold coins and have a mexican midget slave/ best friend..
Awesome.
If you could pick one band to re-unite so you could play
a one-off show with, who would it be, and why?
The Stooges. Beacause they're God.
One big tour, you can take two currently active bands to
support you, who would you choose, and why?
The Pixiekills because there our best friends and a great band.
The Bitter Sweet Kicks because there awsome and cool dudes.. |
