THE BAND
How long has the band been going?
We’ve been a band since 2006, but we’ve all been friends for ages
and ages. The original 5 of us used to hang out a lot in my backyard.
Many lineup changes along the way?
Well Jen left the band early last year, and at that time she and
I would swap bass and guitar duties depending on who wrote the song.
But when she left, it kinda created a situation where we were down
a bass player, so we got Dale Townsend who used to play in Conation
(I was friends with him through working at the studio he and Geoff
Mullard run in Mayfield). Then a few months later Jen came back.
We kept Dale so there was no more swapping around instruments and
our sound became a lot more flexible.
How would you describe your sound to the average person
on the street?
Well, I’ve had a lot different people say we remind them of a lot
of different bands. We are influenced by a lot of different genres
and styles of music. Which include anything from soft rock/alt country
bands to Rock and Roll and really old blues stuff, to punk and hardcore.
Were all into really different types of music and have had really
different and diverse musical backgrounds.
What's your most recent release? Tell us a little about
it...
Were about to release an EP called “Insufficient Funds”. It’s a
5 track EP we recorded late last year with our friend Geoff Mullard
at his studio in Newcastle called RTN. It’s the first recording
we’ve done with Dale.
Got a favourite track that you have released so far?
Probably the song ‘Drug Runs’ from the new EP. Thomas wrote it about
an experience that happened to him and another friend of ours. While
we were doing vocal takes to that song, me and Thomas went down
to get some coke at about 3 in the morning for our Canadian club
and got into a fight and my lip got busted up pretty bad and now
I have a scar there that always reminds me of recording that song.
OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously
about playing it?
Probably just having a great time in high school, playing in bands
with my friends at lunch time.
What was your first band name, and what style did you play?
Haha, I think it was a 3 piece Blink 182 inspired pop-punk band
called Procrastination.
Most prized music related item you own?
An old Epiphone SG my dad bought me when I was like 12. It was a
big deal.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is?
The long van ride. I really like long rides anywhere.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is?
Having to pee real bad.
When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually
found doing?
Bartending.
ON THE STAGE / ROAD
Best rider item you've ever received without requesting it?
Free run of the Bar!
Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why?
Toss up between Melbourne and Brisbane. People are real nice in
those places.
Most memorable show you've played? and why?
At a pub in Uralla (town between Tamworth and Armidale). After the
pub closed we got to hang around afterwards and the let us drink
anything from the bar for free for as long as we wanted. It got
pretty raucous. I think we all ended up spewing.
Worst 'guilty pleasure' artist / song you've come across
on a bandmates iPod?
That French band Phoenix.
Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and
what is it?
Lauren and her hit or completely miss mix tapes.
RIGHT NOW
Where are you?
At home
What's the last song you listened to?
Um… Elliot Smith - St Ides Heaven
Which band or album is currently rockin' your world?
Zookeeper, Kind of like spitting and Ryan Adams are all getting
a fair run.
Tell us a band we should all go and listen to right now?
Lucero
IF ONLY...
If you could pick any one album to cover from start to finish, what
would it be and why?
I would start a band solely to cover Saves The Day’s ‘Cant Slow
Down’. I fucking love that album. That, or the Every Day And Every
Night EP by Bright Eyes. Both records mean a lot to me.
If you could pick any one band / artist to cover one of
your albums from start to finish, what would it be, and why?
Id like to see Feist cover ‘On Against Want.’ I don’t really know
why.
If you could pick one band to re-unite so you could play
a one-off show with, who would it be, and why?
Waxwing, because I really, really like them!
One big tour, you can take two currently active bands to
support you, who would you choose, and why?
Fear Like Us, Arrows. Nice guys. |
